Delayed Gratification
Conquering Freedom
"Delayed Gratification?"
Delayed Gratification (DG) has come up several times over several years in conversation with really good friends - so maybe its time to think about this message.
Well in thinking, every time I hear the word delay, I sort of fringe and I immediately begin to create this negative stronghold in my mind that is associated with waiting. Waiting...for what? And why? Waiting sucks. Everyone who knows me knows I am a right now kind of person. We all are, especially, if we think we DESERVE it. I mean I work hard, you work hard, I try to live high spirited, I hope you do too, I try to do well and wish well for others no matter how others treat me, I hope you do too. In a nutshell, I try my best to live the "right way" with the highest degree of integrity so why should anyone who works this hard mentally (because you have to work mentally) have to wait for anything? What kind of game is this?
Well, what I have learned is that delayed gratification is all about edification of one's soul and spirit, and the ridding of ego from selflessness to even more selflessness until ego is transformed into mercifulness, gratitude and humility. The rewards in DG are far greater internally than externally and most times its the external gifts with temptation which short changes us. Of course assuming you are concerned more with your soul than anything material. To each his own but caution.
Remember Veruca Salt from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory? If not - check out the video below.
When I see the video, this reminds me how constant temptation for what seems good now can destroy what may be great lingering around the corner. Like Veruca, I tend to want things yesterday not allowing for the perfect manifestation and appreciation for what is lining up. I wont give anything time to develop. And as a result I have settled for mediocrity because I have low patience. Why have one goose when the whole Chocolate Factory may be waiting for you? More geese right? Me: one goose is good enough...Ooo but it may not be for you....you might deserve so much more.
So I get it now, delayed gratification is not about what I can have right now but about how I should be preparing for what is to come. It's about how your current circumstance is ALWAYS a springboard for something GREATER if you allow it to manifest - whatever this may be. DG is about being boundless but you have to understand yourself, your ability to be patient and most importantly understand that things are orchestrated perfectly in its own timing and in good faith. Turn your I want now into I am perfectly fine now so that you are not overwhelmed with abundance to receive later what is in the works.
Be well,
Vic
